Design for Recycling

Packaging SA has published the ‘Design for Recycling’ guidelines to provide packaging and print designers in particular with a better understanding of the environmental implications of their design decisions. It brings to life extended producer responsibility which encompasses how a product and its packaging is designed, produced, sold, consumed and disposed in order to lessen its environmental impact through its lifecycle. The Design for Recycling concept also seeks to facilitate the recovery of recyclable materials, maximise the opportunities for local and mechanical recycling (without restricting material choice) and increase the value of post-consumer material.
